Drift boat flair
The angle of the side of the boat from the chine to the handrail.
The flair of the sides of a drift boat is not consistent from the back to the front of the boat. If a boat bottom is symmetrical then the maximum flair will be at the oar locks. If the drift boat is wider at the front to support extra weight forward then the maximum flair will be beside the front passenger seat.
| Advantages of more flair | Disadvantages of more flair |
| Greater deflection of waves | Too much flair can scoop water |
| Lowers the side wind profile | Lowers the freeboard |
